Growth Ministries

Growth ministries at Moon Valley Bible Church are designed to help you go deeper into the Bible and grow stronger in your faith.

With our Growth ministries, we believe the overall goal of our lives is to grow more and more like Christ each day. We provide training and opportunities for you to grow in following Jesus and showing Christlikeness in all areas of your life. As imperfect people, we can't rely on our skill or great efforts to grow, but we can celebrate God's grace each day by trusting Him, expressing selfless love, and doing so in dependence on the Holy Spirit.

It's not achievements that we're after, but growing and learning to love others as Christ loved.

Membership & Baptism

Membership

Have you been attending Moon Valley for a while and are interested in what becoming a member here means? Becoming a member of MVBC is for those who have made a personal decision to believe in Jesus Christ to receive eternal life who also desire to make a special relationship with Moon Valley Bible Church as their local, "home" church.

Why become a member? Well, members are able to:

Participate in the all-congregation votes, usually once a year.
Receive other information and provide more input on the church's direction and vision.
In some cases, ministry positions may require a person to become a member.

How can you become a member of Moon Valley Bible Church? Periodically, we have a brief, 30 minute class where you will receive information on the teaching position of the church, discussion of our vision and ministry philosophy, a summary of our current ministries, and have the opportunity to connect with others and hear their stories about how they discovered MVBC.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member at Moon Valley, please contact Discipleship Director, Todd Mathis

Baptism

Baptism means a lot to us at Moon Valley. We see baptism as a step of faith in obeying what Jesus commanded us to do as a public expression of personal faith in Jesus.

Why be baptized?

It is a step of obedience to Jesus.
"Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)

It is a picture (or symbol) of what Jesus did when He died on the cross for our sins. He died, was buried, and rose again to wash away the sins of everyone who believes. Baptism is a portrait of this spiritual reality.

"Or do you not know that all of us have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:3-4)
"Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead." (Colossians 2:12)

It shows people that you believe in, and are a follower of Jesus.

A good place to start if you have questions about baptism, and how MVBC practices baptism, is by watching our lead pastor Bob Kerrey's 2014 sermon "The Point of Baptism."

If you are interested in being baptized, we offer a Baptism Orientation class to provide more information on how we as a church practice baptism. Contact Discipleship Director, Todd Mathis if you would like more information.

Bible Training Classes

How Grace Teaches Us to Live

Starts: Sunday, October 8th at 10:30 a.m. (DATE CHANGE)
Length: 6 weeks

We enter into a relationship with Christ by faith in Jesus and His work on the cross for us, but many times we are confused about how we go forward from there. All of our sins past, present and future are forgiven, and God views us as having the righteousness of Christ, but what's next? This class will look at what God has done for us; to change us and how we are to live in Christ. Do we work hard to grow, do we humbly seek out life on a high spiritual plane, do we deny the desires of our body, or is there some other way? We will look at the major passages of Scripture on living each day in our new life in Christ, and discuss what is legalism, license, self-denial, and true love-limited liberty. A new Christian or a long-time Christ follower will benefit. Join us!

Biblical Life Strategies for Men

Starts: September 14th, 7 - 8 a.m.

Starting this September, we have a new Biblical Life Strategies group just for men. This group will be based around grace-based teaching and practical application and will be led by MVBC member Mark Spencer. Meeting time is 7 - 8 a.m. Thursday mornings at 14300 N Northsight Blvd Suite 120, Scottsdale (Greenway Shipping Conference Room), with coffee, bagels and donuts provided. Contact Discipleship Director Todd Mathis if you are interested in more information about this great new class opportunity.

Mending the Soul

One of the Life Groups being offered this fall is a Mending the Soul (MTS) group for women. MTS groups are smaller than other Life Groups (approximately 6-8 women), and are designed to provide support and help to those recovering from their experiences of abuse (whether sexual, physical, verbal, spiritual, or neglect and abandonment) or other relational challenges. The MTS group provides a safe and supportive environment for women to process the effects of past or current abuse. Due to the sensitive nature of MTS groups, a simple application and screening process is required.

You can visit the Mending the Soul website for more detailed information about these groups or contact group leader Cathy Kerrey with any questions.

Mentorship Resources

We are offering an online mentoring training program for mentor leaders in the Fall 2017. The class, entitled "The Discipleship Experience", will provide training on the overall goal of discipleship and mentoring, and how to be comfortable in process going from conversation, to spiritual friendship, to training.

Training will cover five topics: (1) the mentoring model and the Christian life; (2) conversation; (3) Spiritual friendship; (4) Mentoring and training; and, (5) Integration and Summary.

Contact Discipleship Director Todd Mathis if you are interested in more information about this training program.
